North Province

The Northern Province is the province that located in above all the other provinces in Sri Lanka. The land area of this province 8,884 km. And it consists of five administrative districts. They are Jaffna, Kilinochchi, Mullaitivu, Vavuniya and Mannar.

The provincial capital is Jaffna. Highest average temperature in Sri Lanka recorded in Jaffna – 83 ° F. Temperatures is highest in April – May and August – September. And the temperature is lowest in December – January. The majority of Tamils in Sri Lanka live in the there. Northern is now rebuilding after ending the 30 years of civil war in year 2009. And today the north of Sri Lanka is became a tourist attraction.

The province is divided into two different geographical regions. The Jaffna Peninsula and the Vanni. This Province is covered with lagoons, tropical forests and a number of rivers flowing through them.

Most of the Tamils who live in Northern Province are Tamil immigrants from South India. So area has a different culture. It is more similar to a small India located in Sri Lanka. As well as northern province situated just 35 km away from India. northern province and the mainland of India connected by the Adam’s Bridge. Adam’s Bridge also known as the Rama’s bridge. Adam’s Bridge is a limestone shale chain, known as Rameshwaram Island, between Pamban Island. Geological evidence indicates that the bridge was a land link between India and Sri Lanka.

The main attraction of the place is Jaffna, because of its a blend of colonially attractive and vibrant Tamil culture. The Jaffna peninsula and surrounding islands, Hindu and Buddhist remote temples, and beaches offer more attractions.Getting to Jaffna is easy now and does not require a security inspection or clearance.
