Still, men wear sarong but women in nowadays used to wear fashionable clothes instead of redda hattaya.Most Clothes of Srilanka unique to itself.
Osariya which means kandian saree is the traditional clothes of Srilanka for ladies, Lama saree(half saree) for kids and national suits for men. Mostly, Osariya wears by Walawuwa ladies in the middle of the country. Walawuwa family consider as the significant rich family in the villages.
Cotton, silk, handloom and bathik sarees are most popular in trading and among them, handloom sarees and bathik sarees are most popular in the market. Clothes depend on the different types of stages. Religion is one stage. Sinhala ladies wear sarees for any special occasions but normally,
they wear frocks, skirts, and blouses. Tamil culture is the same as Sinhala. Christians also pay attention to tight frocks, skirts, and blouses.
Muslim ladies wear burka that covers the whole body and also they like to wear salwar. Married Muslim ladies wear sarees and cover their hair using
a small piece of cloth. Sinhala and Tamil ladies used heavy jewelry which is made in gold. Gold jewelry is the most precious jewelry and some made using gems and pearls which are very expensive. Somehow, Sri Lankan tradition is similar to the tradition of India.
Sinhala and Tamil men wear sarong which can be produced using cotton and batik. A sarong can be wrapped around the body. It is very simple and comfortable.
But in any occasion they wear trousers and shirts the same as the Christian men. Muslim men also wear sarong but they wear a cap called taqiyah.
