Hambantota district is one of the 25 districts in Sri Lanka. It has nine cities named Tangalle, Hambantota, Ambalantota, Beliatta, Thissamaharama, Middeniya, Angunukolapelessa, Walasmulla and Weeraketiya. Among them Hambantota is the capital.
The average annual temperature is 27.1 °C | 80.8 °F. It is considered as a rain less area and combination of tropical wet and dry climate. Therefore, Hambantota is most popular for salt production. Salt is produced by using sea water. In this  District has a population of 596,617 and most of them are Buddhist. Hambantota is one of the fastly development city in every kind of fields. In ancient it called Mahagama, Ruhuna and Dolos dahas rata.
Mattala airport, Magam Ruhunupura International conference hall, hambantota port and the southeren express highway show the development that the city has faced. On one hand, Mirijjawila Botanical Garden has the Mattala International Airport on its left side and the Hambantota Harbor on its right side. It is situated in the dry zone in Sri lanka. Species of trees and shrubs, medicinal herbs and popularizing plants of the dry zone are provided an attractive destination for foreign and local tourists.
The park stretches across 300 acres of land. The wind farm, which was located along south-eastern coast of district was the country’s first wind farm and the wind farm generated up to approximately 4,500 MWh of power a year. On the other hand, the Hambantota Port known as the Magampura Mahinda Rajapaksa Port is a maritime port in Hambantota, which will be Sri Lanka’s second largest port, after the Port of Colombo.
Further, Mattala Rajapaksha International airport, is the first greenfield airport in island. It is located in Mattala which is designed to facilitate for over 800 foreign passengers at peak hours and several local passengers per every 1000 km² inside the buildings. The new international airport is expected to expand the local aviation industry whilst being a catalyst for the country’s economic development enabling international trade, tourism, vocational training and employment.
