Gampaha is one of the 25 districts in Sri Lanka. Kelaniya, Mahara, Biyagama, Dompe, Ja-Ela, Wattala, Negombo, Gampaha, Mirigama, Minuwangoda and Katana are some citties in the districts and also among them Gampaha is the capital. Gampaha, an urban city is the si th largest urban are in Western Province after Colombo, Negombo, Kalutara, Panadura and Avissawella. Gampaha has a tropical monsoon climate under the Koppen climate classification. The climate is fairly temperate. All throughout the year with a significant rainfall. The driest month is January and there is about 62mm of preciptation. Most of the precipitation 365mm. April is the warmest month in Gampaha and the December is the coldest month. The main sources of water canals of Gampaha are Attanagalla Oya and Uruwela oya.

During reign of Protuguese, the main route to the hill country had been laid through the Gampaha and in the period of Dutch, this area was served as centre for the collection of Cinnomon. When British built the ‘Moragoda’ catholic church in 1828 in Gampaha, the surroundding areas were slowly became inhabitted. The economy of Gampaha has been vastly extended in many aspects. Mainly, paddy and rubber are grown here as the main cultivation products and additionally pineapple and betel are grown here.

On one hand, Gampaha district attract many tourists to Sri Lanka. Negombo beach is the one of the main attractive place in district. Negombo called as ‘Little Rome’ because of the city has lots of churches according to the Rome culture. The unspoiled beach mouthed to the Negombo lagoon is cleaned by the authorities every day. Therefore almost a clean and neat beach is offered to the tourists. Further, Henrathgoda botanical garden is one of the Gampaha’s many landmarks to discover. This garden has so many varieties of trees. Some rare varieties are imported from far away countries. Therefore the garden is a symbol of colonial economy in Sri Lanka. By the way, this wonderful garden is home to over 80 varieties of birds. When getting greenly during monsoon, it becomes very famous among both locals and tourists.

On the other hand, Horagolla National park is the another best destination in Gampaha district. The park is full filled with huge bio diversity. Sri Lankan jungle fowl, fishing cat, giant squirrel, monkeys, golden jackal are some of the animal species living together with the many variety of reptiles, amphibians and birds. At a glance, the tress in the park are aggregating a great value to the nature. People who are visiting to the park can get an adventure through the forest will refresh their body, mind, and soul.
