Sri Lanka is one of those Country has a very long history. story of ancient Lanka has its beginnings from the Stone Age. Srilanka has 3,000 years of Old written history of Srilanka. but according to evidence of pre-historic human settlements dating back to at least 125,000 years. Srilanka Has Controlled by 3 foreign nation before 1948.after 1998 Srilanka freedom from British. As the history of Srilanka, it was formerly known as Tambaparni. In the 4th century BC, Megasthenes renamed it Taprobana in Greek.
According to chronicles, the Yakkhayas, the Nagas, and the Devas lived on the island before the migration of the Indo-Aryan Sinhalese. There are several periods in history of Srilanka. That is, Pre-Anuradhapura Period ( 483 BC to Tissa 377 BC), Anuradhapura Period ( 337 BC to 1055 AD), Polonnaruwa Period ( 1-1055 AD to 1232 AD), The Dambadeniya Period (1232 AD to 1293 AD), Kurunegala Period (1293 AD to 1341 AD), The Gampola Period ( 1341 AD to 1408 AD), The period of Kotte(1408 AD to 1597 AD), Kandy period (1469 AD to 1815 AD), Colonial period- 1506 to 1658 AD -The period during which the Portuguese,1658 to 1796 AD – The period during which the Dutch,1796 to 1815 AD -The period during which the British.
Excavations, Researches and Mahavamsa, Dipavamsa, Vamsattappakasini, and Kulavamsa are some of the sources of Sri Lankan history. Due to the great kings who ruled Sri Lanka in the past, Sri Lanka has become a prosperous country with the economy and agriculture. King Parakramabahu, king Pandukabaya, King Dutugemunu, King Sri Wickramarajasinghe, and King Walagamba had done a great service for the country.BCE Buddhism was introduced to Sri Lanka in the 3rd century by Arhat Mahinda (son of Indian Emperor Ashoka).
Before 1948, Sri Lanka was ruled by three foreign nationalities. they are Portuguese, Dutch, British. Sri Lanka is the world’s second-largest tea exporter due to the tea and rubber plantations that were started during the British rule.
However, after Sri Lanka gained independence from colonial rule, the government has come under eight Presidents. The free education system and free health care in Sri Lanka are very advanced. Also, with the development of agriculture, the poor population has decreased.
