Matale district is a one of 25 districts in Sri Lanka. Dambulla, Galewela, Naula, Pallepola, Rattota, Matale and Ukuwela are some cities in the district. Among them Matale is the capital which is surrounded by the Knuckles Mountain Range, therefore Matale clasified as tropical which has significant rainfall all over the year.
The highest average temperature in Matale is 33°C in March and the lowest is 29°C in January. Matale, situated in the middle of the country is famous for spicy. Cocoa, rubber, vanilla, cardamom, cinchona and jackfruit are the main plantations that can be seen in Matale.
Further, the city’s main economic activities include Tourism, Business and Trade. Sigiriya which is the most atraction place in Sri lanka give support to increase tourrism in the district. King Kashyapa who was the son of King Dhatusena built his palace on top of the rock and decorated its sides with colourful frescoes. The entrance of King Kashyapa palace was designed with the lion-like structure. Therefore it was named Sinhagiri. Sigiriya is famous for frescoes, created during the reign of Kasyapa. Further, this lion shape rock is the best example to show the amazing architectural skills of ancient people. However, construction of such a monument on a massive rock is not a easy task.
Unfortunatly, engineering skills and the technologies that they used are still a secret. Furthermore, Sigiriya is considered as the eighth wonder of the world. Not only for Sigiriya, But also Alu wiharaya and Sembuwatta are the other main parts of tourism. Alu wiharaya is the place where the Thripitakaya is written in Pali. After Buddha’s passing a way, the buddha darma was passed on from generation to generation verbally.
King Walagamba is taken the place to write those dharma into the talipot leaves. Sembuwatta lake is an another place which worth enough to travelling. Having pure natural water, the lake imagine the feeling of heaven. Rising above the lake are the beautiful green mountains with a thick pines forest where anyone can take time to climb up. Actually, this is a man-made lake that believed to be 9m to 12m deep.
