Anuradhapure, one of the main ancient city in Sri Lanka that has great history since the time of the kings. Anuradhapure kingdom shows how royal family and the people in that time support to the buddhism, and how people bonded with the religion. As a result of that, we can still worship sri maha bhodiya which is act as the heart of all world wide buddhist people.

And the ruins of there palaces and buildings still can see in this wonderful old kingdom.  The ancient kings make  a huge stupa.  Ancient kings made huge stupas and placed various relics in it. The 8 sacred sites ( Atamasthana ) are the main sites in Anuradhapura.  They are Jaya Sri Maha Bodhiya, Thuparamaya, Lowamahapaya, Ruwanwelisaya, Mirisawetiya, Abhayagiriya, Jetavanaramaya, Lankaramaya. These eight places are the places where Lord Buddha visited Sri Lanka on three occasions. UNESCO has declared the city as a World Heritage Site.

The kings built large tanks  to uplift the agriculture in country. Rain water is added to those tanks. This water use by farmers to feed the country’s rice. Even today, those tanks help people. And because that they still can do there agricultural business  successfully.As the result of that  agricultural is the main source of life of the people of anuradhapura. Basawakkulama Reservoir, Tissa Wewa, Kala wewa and  Malvatu Oya are some of these water resources.
