Batticaloa is a District in the Eastern Province, Sri Lanka.also called as Madakalapuwa in Sinhala.the name ‘Batticaloa‘ is derivate from Portuguese. Also, This District has a nickname, “Land of the singing fish”.this disrict is in the eastern coast of SriLanka.
This District has three lagoons.this are special to this district
1. Batticaloa Lagoon
2. Valaichchenai Lagoon
3. Vakari Lagoon
Among these Lagoon Batticoloa Lagoon is the largest lagoon in the Batticaloa district and it has 162 square km area.There are several islands around this Lagoon such as Puliayantheevu, Buffaloa Island and Bone Island.this lsland connected with bridges are built across the lagoon.
This District has beautiful beaches.this beaches are sandy and rock free.Such as Kallady beach, Pasikudah beach, and Kalkudah beach has many tourist attractions.
This District has a tropical wet and dry climate.the maximum temperature averages around the district 32 °C.From March to May, the warmest time of the year and November to February has heavy rains.
