Mannar Island is the largest island in the country. The Northern Province of Sri Lanka belongs to the this District. The landscape of this district is beautiful. The paddy fields and palm trees of the forest are filled with tourists. this Island is a dry and arid peninsula located in the Mannar district. It is located on the western edge of the island.
Due to the presence of a small fishing harbor, fishing is the main occupation of the people of this district.
Mannar Island was formerly known as “Mahahota”, “Mahaputhu” and “Mawatutota”.
