Mannar Island is the largest island in the country. The Northern Province of Sri Lanka belongs to the this District. The landscape of this district is beautiful. The paddy fields and palm trees of the forest are filled with tourists. this Island is a dry and arid peninsula located in the Mannar district. It is located on the western edge of the island.
Due to the presence of a small fishing harbor, fishing is the main occupation of the people of this district.
Mannar Island was formerly known as “Mahahota”, “Mahaputhu” and “Mawatutota”.
St. Mary’s Cathedral in Madhu is a very sacred place. The statue of Lady Madhu is placed here and devotees visit St. Mary’s Cathedral in Madhu to commemorate their Mother’s Day in August.
The Patni Devalaya is another sacred place. The Patni Devalaya was built in Mannar, 90 km northwest of Anuradhapura. During the Portuguese rule in Sri Lanka, the Hindus called it Amman Kovil.
However, these places have so far become sacred places for all pilgrims.
This is one of the best places to visit in Sri Lanka.
Mannar is one of the few baobab trees in Sri Lanka. It is an area of ??great economic value bought by the nationals.
