Jnallur-kovill_jaffnaaffna, the second level administrative division of the country is one of the twenty five district in country. It has 14 cities and population was 583,378 in 2012. Among them tamil populatiion is high.
Except for that, tamil people are suffered mostly from the civil war. And because of that some of them moved to the Colombo for safety. Geographycally, area of 1,025 square kilometres of district divided into four parts.  They are henmarachchi, Vadamarachchi, Valikamam and Jaffna islands.
Jaffna district has 15 Divisional Secretary’s Division. And it divided into 435 sub parts which is called Grama Niladhari Divisions. Bassically, Jaffna comes under Jaffna kingdom known as Aryachakravarti. Ministers are appointed by the President, who chairs the cabinet and appoints the independent judiciary. The district has the highest average temperature in Sri Lanka of 83 °F (28 °C).
The temperature is highest in the months of April – May and August –September. Jaffna is no longer a major port but conducts some trade with southern India. Fishing is important in the economy. Jaffna fell under Portuguese rule in 1619. Further, Jaffna has, the second biggest Dutch fort built in Sri Lanka during dutch era. A fort and a church remain from the Dutch period, and near the fort is a famous Hindu temple, Kandaswamy Kovil. However, the Dutch church located within the fort had bombed and completely destroyed because of the 30 year old internal strife that ravaged the country.
Dambakola Patuna, or the fort of Jambukola, is one of the most importance and significance for the Buddhist community. The reason is Theri Sanghamitta, sister of Mihindu Maha Thero arrived in Sri Lanka with a Sacred Bo Sapling to this port. The temple Jambukola Viharaya was built commemorating the arrival of the Bo sapling by King Devanampiya Tissa. Jaffna library is one of the prominent and illustrious buildings in not only the district of Jaffna but also the country of Sri Lanka. This heritage building has many tamil cultural texts that are rare. White-sand Charty beach is the best place to enjoy and it is the place that travellers never miss.
